About Pinaglabanan X
Pinaglabanan X is an online gallery and a studio which fabricates the sculptural works and handles the marketing of the work of the artist Agnes Arellano, and her family. Last year she paid tribute to her grand uncle Juan Arellano with relief-enfleshments of some his very private paintings. On this second foray into the fair, we feature in tandem Juan’s grandson, her cousin the painter Raul Deodato Arellano, with some nude sketches.
Pinaglabanan X is an offshoot of Pinaglabanan Galleries in the late 1980’s, which energized the Philippine contemporary art scene with its cutting-edge exhibitions, colorful performances & lavish openings, as well as brisk international exchanges, and was also a source of research support for foreign curators & researchers visiting the Philippines.
The exhibitions during its five-season history had a wide & varied range of genres in painting, sculpture, performance art, installation art & poetry.
A nonprofit corporation whose venue lasted five seasons from 1984-89, it was envisioned as a place where artists could explore & experiment, and living masters who had not been recognized would be acknowledged.
It was a memorial to the death by fire of family members of the artist Agnes Arellano.
